The most common diseases of the spine
“You are as young as your spine is flexible”
The importance of the spine lies in the protection and protection of the spinal cord, rib cage, and nerves, as the vertebrae can provide the necessary support to the moving structure; it also protects nervous tissue that extends from the brain to the spine from injury. Spinal diseases vary according to the location of the injury and its symptoms, and on this basis, the doctor sets a treatment mechanism that begins with the first physical and physical treatments and the last stage is surgery, which has seen amazing development in recent years that led to some operations by local anesthesia and some of them are done by endoscopy.
Spine diseases
- Degenerative spinal disease
Degenerative diseases of the spine occur when a disc of the spine loses its strength, and degenerative disc disease is what is known as disc disease, which is the occurrence of changes in the discs of the spine, which causes severe pain. A person suffers from this disease when the intervertebral discs dry up and the fluid in them is drained, leading to friction between the vertebrae and the ability to absorb the trauma to which one is exposed.
The onset of the pathological condition is simple but it worsens with age, causing rupture and erosion, where a change in the content of water and protein in the cartilage of the body becomes weak and it becomes fragile; Because both the discs and joints that accumulate the vertebrae are made up partly of cartilage, these areas are prone to damage and tearing so-called degenerative changes and with the gradual degradation of the discs between the vertebra, degenerative spinal disease occurs. Spinal discs consist of a smooth inner center and a solid external wall. Changes in these discs occur with age and lead to degenerative disc disease.
- Slipped disc
Herniated disc or disc pain is a rupture of the intervertebral nucleus of the disc leaving the outer fibrous annulus. Herniated disc occurs when the disc is subjected to pressure or other factors that weaken it. A rupture occurs in it and the inner material of the disc protrudes outward, or swells. Herniated disc can affect any part of the spine from the neck to the lower back, but it often occurs in the lower part of the back. This slide irritates the nerves near it, causing severe pain, numbness, and weakness in the place of the injury.
- Osteoporosis of the vertebrae
Osteoporosis is one of the most common diseases of the spine. It occurs as a result of bone loss, its ability to withstand injuries, trauma, and intolerance to extra body weight. Causes of the disease include genetic factors, lack of physical activity, and a diet that lacks nutrients, in addition to aging and an imbalance in the body’s hormones. This disease is treated with a lot of foods containing vitamin D and calcium, and by taking hormonal medications.
Osteoporosis is caused by osteoporosis and weakness in it. Bones are the living tissues that break down and are constantly replaced. Osteoporosis occurs when the rate of formation of the new bone is slower than that of the old bone, and fractures associated with osteoporosis occur in the hip, wrist, and spine.
